New Cold War by David Sanger
This is not a book review post, sorry.
On August 12th, I attended a discussion organized by the Centre for Strategic Studies at Victoria University of Wellington and The NZ-US Council, focusing on the book "New Cold Wars? China’s Rise, Russia’s Invasion, and the Future of US Leadership." During the event, Professor David Capie directly spoke with the book's author, David Sanger.
David Sanger is the White House and national security correspondent for The New York Times. For this book, he draws on interviews with top officials from five U.S. presidential administrations, intelligence agencies, foreign governments, and tech companies.
From the discussion, I learned about the differences between the old Cold War and the current Cold War, how South Korea emerged as a "winner" from the previous proxy wars, and the possible endgame for this new Cold War. From what I understood, this new Cold War is not just forming two opposing sides, but the tools used for bargaining are becoming smaller in scope.
It was a valuable opportunity to hear an analysis of international political dynamics directly from an expert.
